Tips:

1. Get there an hour beforehand. This will give you plenty of time to sign on, check your bike over etc.

2. Get a good warm up. At least 20mins of riding with some hard efforts. These races tend to go from the gun and if your legs aren't ready for it you can get into difficulty.

3. Set a goal - yours should be to finish. Don't do anything heroic just try to finish and get a feel for racing.

4. Don't sit too far back in the bunch, you'll get caught out by splits and crashes.

5. Enjoy it! Racing is great fun but also a continual learning experience so well done for having a go and hope to see you at a few more!!

Cheers for the advice guys. I managed 4 out of 5 of Davey's tips but the enforced cyclocross I did on the second lap had me hanging on and eventually off on the third lap. I tried time trialing my way back but bit tough on your own. Got lapped after about 6 or 7 laps, then caught and lapped a couple myself. All to no avail as coming into the top chicane with the pack closing I had to pull over or I'd have caused an accident and I wasn't going to be lapped twice! shame really as if I'd kept going I'd have caught a load more and finished somewhere approaching respectability.

Lots of lessons learned........roll on next week!

Nice one!

Remember road racing is more often about experience than fitness so keep giving it a go!

I should add, Tank has won the last two events in the E123!

Greg got 5th last week in the 3/4 and was very active last night. If he could learn to be on the front for the last 200m rather than the 28.8km before it he'd do even better! ;)
