My Dad sadly passed away peacefully yesterday morning after suffering from Alzeimers for 4 years.A club member for many years after first joining the Ogmore Valley Wheelers when we first came to Wales in 1969.
Rode many time trials in the 1970's but stopped racing in 1983 because of arthritis in the spine.
Remained active locally whilst following my career and did reporting for Cycling Weekly in the area and covered Chris Boardmans GHS win in 1984 at Pencoed.
His own cycling career was in the 1950's and was always proud of his 239 miles for the 12 hour on 81 inch fixed.
The family cycling tradition will continue with his Grandson Curtis competing and improving nicely but my Dads condition prevented him from supporting him at races. He got so much pleasure from being at the races with me and supporting me.
Cycling was his release right through his life and when he could no longer ride his bike that really felt like the end was in sight and so started his rapid decline in health.
I'll post the funeral date later in the week.
