Saturday Rides - Suggestion

Hi all,

Now that the season is fast approaching I would like to make a suggestion that has been mentioned previously and is a restoration of the old ways of the club run!

Namely that on the way back from the cafe the faster riders should NOT go up Parc Slip but rather continue on to Doc Richards Hill, climb that and try to chase back on to those that went up Parc Slip, turning the ride into a bit of a handicap event.

This has the advantage of giving those who want it an extra work out, and preserving the legs of the Parc Slip boys a little longer. I think, utlimately everyone would benefit from this as everyone is encouraged to work together to either preserve their lead or catch the front boys.

I think this sounds an excellent idea Davey.
It would push someone like me to to have a go at keeping up with the "fast boys" and if i/anybody gets dropped at least we get a good workout trying!
All i have to do know is convince my boss to let me have more weekends off work so i can get there in the first place!

In the good old days ........
The Doc Richards bunch would catch us somewhere near to the village of Penybryn. Invariably some of those who found the pace of Doc Richards too hard would then drop onto our bunch and some of those who found the parc slip bunch too slow would jump onto the bunch disappearing up the road - It did work well until too many winter wimps took the easy gentler ride option and every one else joined them and all of a sudden we were getting the S**t kicked out of us on Parc Slip !!!

By coincidence, I might ( just might )be making a comeback on Saturday .......

Cheers Chips. The suggestion was actually made by you to me a little while ago and has been playing on my brain since! The beauty of it is that everyone is forced to work together so there is no point in NAILING it on Doc Richards as you will need team-mates to work with you to catch the group through the lanes! Same goes for the Parc Slip group too!

This suggestion seems to have been well received - I think we'll try it out on Saturday!

In the good old days..
Parc Slip was used as the Vets escape route. Under '40' Doc Richards over '40' Parc Slip. May be a starting point :lol:

Tried it this Saturday and it worked well! About 7 of us tackled the Berg of Doc Richards. We took it steady to the base and up the climb before indulging in some disciplined through and off. No egos or kickings, just a common objective of getting back to the group.

Regrettably the Parc Slip bunch didn't quite take advantage of their headstart and we caught them almost at the top of Parc Slip itself! I'm sure that as the season progresses they will get a bit more organised and put up a better fight! Same again this Saturday!
