Well don't know if any of the older members can remember but my dad used to have a cycle side to our business and had Gerrard and JD running it for us. We have been thinking again of diversifying again as the motorcycle trade has gone a bit slow. Was looking for a bit of input in to what sort of product, kit, gear etc would interest cyclists like yourselves for us to stock, we were planning on going down the repair and general spares and useful accessories such as lights, small clothing items side of things at first so would really appreciate some input

thanks

Hmmmmm, I vaguely remember that shop  I've just got back from Australia and popped into a boutique bike shop in Manly stocking only traditional town style bikes. Lovely looking machines and really got me excited about the direction I want my business to go, maybe something to think about for you? These are gonna appeal to those who want to chill out on Aberavon/Mumbles seafront.

An excellent idea. Good luck with that.

Fond memories of Kickstart Cycles and young Charles and a pony-tailed Gerard! I bought my last mountain bike from there!

Of course, nowadays there is a bike shop in Station Road catering for families and kids so Kickstart Cycles 2 might be better pitching to a more discerning clientele. Tricky times for any business...

The shop in station road dont do maintenance though, which is needed in in PT. If i need anything doing I have to travel to Jeff Bruce or Forza. And I believe Jeff is finishing next year so bang goes our local racing specialist!!

I believe their son does cycle repairs from premises behind the shop.

Ah right. I know when I asked them to do a job a few years ago they said they didnt do it but that her son did it from home. But if hes doing it from the back of the shop then thats a new thing 8) Talking of maintenance I got to return your BB tool mate. I never needed it in the end either. I'll drop it round sometime ;)

Since the beginning of the recession bike sales are up 25% and car sales are down 9%. That may not apply in Port Talbot, but it is a national trend. Recessions therefore produce results overnight whereas decades of campaigning achieve bugger all.

Personally I'm after a bike that needs no maintenance. Hub geared, hub-braked, hub-dynamoed, enclosed chain, long wheel base, can carry 40kg, and just has lights that allow you to see where you're going. I realise the bike picture above has most of those, but it probably only has 3 gears! No bike can suit everyone. It's a broad church.

Bill, you need a bike with the Rohloff hub, that gives you 14 gears 8)

If your going to travel as far as Forza, you just as well come to me, I'm only a few miles further up the road.

Hi Bike Doc,

I keep forgetting you do bike mainteance. I can basic stuff has I did a 2 day course and was certified mad. But it only brushed on wheel trueing and unless you have the tools even other jobs I can do are impossible from home. I will keep you in mind. My winter wheels need some trueing and I was going to have my best wheels checked aswell.
