Hi guys,
Has most of you know I dont work. Being on benefits isn't all its cracked out to be. Everyone thinks you are a good thing and for some people maybe they are. Well I'm not and I want to move on with my life to feel a part of society again.
I want to return to work but have a problem gaining employment in the main stream due to a disabilty I have. I have an idea of starting up a small business doing bike repairs but wondered if there would be a call for this in the Port Talbot area. I have to research this to see if it would be a feasible idea. I am looking at doing courses in bike machanics including wheell building etc. I want to cover all areas. Its all ideas at the moment. What do you guys think? I need feedback and who better to ask than you guys in the club.
Maybe theres sommeone in the club who could help advise or know of whom to contact to get expert advise to help plan such a venture.
cheers

Why not speak to Brucie ,Paul!he'll probably be able to tell you where to go.

To be blunt Paul I think it would be impossible to make a living out of it. Retail plus repairs would be marginal but repairs only would earn you a pittance and I think you'd find it impossible to recover the not inconsiderable cost of getting kitted out. However, it might be worth doing some maths and investigating what support you could get.

Why not retrain as a plumber? I hear that Port Talbot is losing one of the finest quite soon.

Thanks for the replies. To train as bike mechaic with a city and cuilds certificate is 500 quid plus VAT plus expenses. I been in touch with cycle wales. They do a course up North Wales. PLus I would need the buy all the equipment to be able to do any kind of job after I pass. I will need to look into it properly. If its not viable to go alone then maybe I could go work for a cycle store.

Just another thought Paul, but this time of year cycleworld and halfords are always looking for casual staff to assemble bikes ready for christmas, might be a good grounding.

And not forgetting Santa, he's always looking for little helpers this time of year, all you need is pointy ears and a stripey hat.
Oh yes and it helps to have short legs.

Santa's job would do for you Paul,it's not what you'd call mainstream and he does actually work one more day than your goodself.
