went out on the 9 30 ride today what a kicking ! havnt been on a bike for about 3 weeks & currently nudging 14 stone who was i trying to kid. i think ill blame les coz he said he was going on the 9 30 ride up the clubhouse on friday night. boy did i underestimate u les ! mind you the company i was with reads like a whos who of arsekickers! rhys , disco crowley (those two together probably struggle to get to 14stone) tank & les. got dropped after about 8 miles & rode in to the cafe on my own about 20 mins down but to heart warming round of aplause off the wrecking crew afore mentioned. on the way home waited for cj who punctured only to get dropped again. but fairplay to cj he waited for me & who rode back together. got home with 70miles under my belt though about 40 of which i spent on my own (aaaahhhhh) but as i said to young rhys dai & james earlier in the day if you cant give yourself a good kicking once in a while why bother getting out of bed. mind you .......................

I thought the idea of the 9.30am saturday ride was to get more miles in at a steady pace. It used to pick up pace in the new year. But winter months used to be steady and a good ride for those getting back into their cycling, or just wanting to enjoy their rides after racing all summer. If you want a kicking Andy then good on you mate. Hope the cosmic wheels are working ok. Did you sort out that lose spoke?

Hey Andy
Don't Worry Mate I got dropped as well (twice) before finally succuming to age and fitness. Yep I too took my kicking like a man and will be out next saturday for more of the same.

And for no legs' words of wisdom. Your almost right mate but what is steady pace to the "who's who of Arsekickers" is not steady pace to the likes of me and you ;) ...... but if you want to get quicker, ride with those better than you and hopefully each week you stay on a bit further :D ..... Draw you line on the road and beat it next week.... hey presto continuous improvement....... bit of a bugger when they improve a little quicker than me and I get dropped a little earlier each week  but thats half the fun

Thats true Les. I wasn't out because I had a soaking Friday afternoon and my cyclng shoes hadn't dried out so wasn't a happy chappy saturday morning. But I would have been on the 10.30 ride to be honest. Andy, sounds like you over did mate. Hope you had a large brandy and a few lagers to help recovery lolololololol

Very good advice here from Les. Chip away at it. Les is testament to the adage of playing the long haul game and setting little mini goals that add up to one big goal. It won't happen overnight but you get there. As Mohammed said, how do you move a mountain? One spade full at a time.

In case anyone is worried, the Saturday rides are not crazy fast and are very steady. We don't attack up St Marys and if anyone is dropped we wait at Pentre Meyrick. We try a bit of through and off after Llantwit, which never goes mad until perhaps St Brides. Come and have a go and get your moneys worth out of the PTWCC! :P

Dave, do you do the same route each week? For me, getting over to Port talbot is a bit of a ride. I live in cowbridge, so I could possibly meet up with the Fast lot at a certain point have a good thrash, untill I get dropped and ride home for a sleep. :P

If your riding over from cowbridge your best bet is to either meet us coming the other way across Heol -y-cyw common. or prehaps outside pencoed college at the roundabout there.

Cheers for the heads up Rhys, what sort of time would you be flying down heol y cyw common 10-1030? I can't make this week, (family duty saturday morning) but I 'd be looking to make it on the 12th dec. for a try out

Hi Rich,
I'm not sure but I think you were mending a puncture as we approached Heol y cyw on Saturday so what ever time you punctured thats about the time we get there. :P

For reference our route is Port Talbot, along the A48. Left towards Penybryn and through the lanes past Aberbaiden. Down parc slip to the Rock and Fountain. Over to the roundabout at Aberkenfig, up Sarn Hill across to the Sarn And Bryncwills Community centre where left to the Masons in Bryncethin then along the common to Heol Y Cyw and Pencoed. We leave Port Talbot at 9:30 so we should cross if you head off along that route.

See ya soon

Aye that was me. First puncture of 2009 , How did I manage that. I thought I recognised a few faces as you sped past. See you soon.
