Just received an e mail off WELSH CYCLING for any one interested in attending these courses, they are for accredited static marshals for road racing, without such marshals ,the future of our events and others on the open roads could be in jepordy, the courses are free , all it will cost you is some of your valuable time . the proposed course will be held towards the end of Febuary 2010, the exact date has yet to be finalised, so if you feel that you can assist please contact me so that i can put your names forward, thanks

Hi Guys,
Hope you don't mind - I joined your forum so I could post here ....

The course will take place at the end of February, just in time for the new season of racing and will be at Mamhilad near Pontypool. I'm just waiting for confirmation of the dates from Gwent Police. It will be on a Saturday/Sunday and will take a day to complete 9am to 5pm - all refreshments provided and if there are enough participants in the west of Wales W.C. will fund a mini bus to get you there and back. All equipment necessary, uniform etc will be supplied prior to the training.

Please volunteer - as Pip says without this scheme and volunteers to run it road racing will diminish and may even die off. With the scheme it opens up new courses - because we can stop and direct traffic at traffic lights, right turns, roundabouts etc. lawfully.

Also we all need to understand that without this training, if we stop or direct traffic we commit an offence. I know nobody has been prosecuted - yet - but we don't want to be the first cycle marshals to be prosecuted for it!

So ... please contact Michael Heaven at Welsh Cycling and provide your details as soon as possible:

Thanks Kev, the more the merrier , can you let me know your contact adress and sizes for the "uniform" please?this goes for anyone else who either has previously volunteered or wishes to volunteer,i need your details asap so that i can let WELSH CYCLING know , as i understand it a minibus for transport will be provided as well as refreshments and a meal, although if things progress they will need to provide a bigger bus!
