The Squadra were out in force again last night in castle coombe - starting in the second group was me and a very young looking Charles (still don't reckon he's just 30!) and in with the big boys was young James aka "the Tank"
With the time keeper getting the h'cap gaps all wrong, we set off in hot pursuit of the 4th cat group after about 1.5 mins. Quickly Charles and 2 others lept off the front and after probably 2 or 3 agonising laps joined the main bunch. 2 laps later, the 3rds and 4ths joined together to form a group about 60 strong. Feeling pretty strong myself and being lubed up with some new "gear" (slightly darker in colour this time) I attacked off the front. My adventure didnt last long as me and another escapee were picked up within a lap.
Now normally the elite group catches the main group with about 3 - 4 laps to go, but we all came together with the plackard showing 8 laps and nearly 16miles of pain left.
Then came attack after attack and I must say an impressive James was mixing it up with the best, an awesome showing of strength! Not to be outdone by james' efforts, Charles had visions of grandeur and went off up the road with some Rapha boys only to be clawed back within half a lap - the squadra was flying. James and another from candi TV attacked and took a bunch of 5 or 6 away with them and it looked possible they would stay away. but eventually it all came back together. on the last but one lap, 3 got away and contested the win and the rest of us contested the slightly mad and mayhem infested bunch gallop. James got 10th and Cahrles and I finished in the top half of the strung out bunch. Awesome nights riding - perfect conditions - super fast - and the Squarda did good!!
