Hi Chris,

I think Charles and James may be riding down, Charles checks this site pretty regularly so can confirm.

There are two events, a 3/4 race which is 45mins around the Llandow racing circuit. This would be ideal, the great thing about circuot races is that if you get dropped you can just jump back on the next time it comes around! Far better than being left in some remote part of the Welsh countryside.

The second event is an E123 race lasting an hour. This event is handicapped so that the lower categories get a head start. If you are feeling fresh you can do both events. THere is even a discount on the entry fee for doing so.

The 'squadra' for the evenign will be me, Charles and James Lewis so there will be plenty of friendly faces. Come along and get involved!

Nothing wrong with a bit of optimism?! I refer the Member from Abergavenny to his own forum, more specifically the Aber H'Cap thread thread. Was an Abergavenny 123 mentioned there in the build up to the Angela Davies Mem? ;) :P

Should be seeing Guy Stevens, Graham Edwards, Neil Cox and Michael Heaven (yep - Michaels making his comeback!! ) all there in the 3rds and 4ths.

Then it's over to me, John Fitz and George (hopefully) in the 'main' event, supported by Guy, Neil and Gra who will be 'doubling up'!

I saw him loitering at the Presidents with his bike in the boot - I knew it wouldn't be long!

Sounds like some good guys will be there, looking forward to it!

Ok, your man in the circular field reporting…

Almost a full squadra turned up last night, Davey ‘Disco’ C, Andy ‘the bester tester’ Evans and Charlie ‘Boyo’ Reynolds. James ‘The Tank’ Lewis was on the sidelines with a cold but was there to cheer on the boys, so was with us in spirit!

The first race was a 3/4, 45mins + 2 laps. With a field of 50 riders lining up, it was going to get cramped and dodgy on that circuit, and sensing this when the flag went down I made sure to get up to the front. Sure enough, the clatter and smash behind me on two occasions made me realise I had made the right choice. Unfortunately on the second occasion a few guys went down quite badly, and the race was stopped briefly for a shouting down by ‘Lob’, the chief commie. This break came as much relief for me, as I had started off a bit too hard, and was paying the price with still 40mins of racing left to go! Charles also went through a bad patch, but after the restart we gathered our senses and were away to go. A couple of riders chipped off the front from the off, and soon a break of 4 were up the road, with the heavily represented Jif getting a man in there. The remaining boys in green then shut down the race, making a chase difficult. The squadra made valiant efforts to bridge or chase, but to no avail, and it soon became clear we were racing for 5th.

Turning the last corner I found myself nicely up near the front and with a nice line so I opened up early at the bottom of the straight. Coasting it in I even had time to ride the last 50m one handed looking back at my beaten foes in a Cavendish display of confidence that I really should reign in!! So I got 5th, ruing what could have been as I quite clearly had some good sprinting legs on me.

Andy and Charles finished in the bunch, and a big kudos to both of them for some excellent riding in a very fast moving race!

Charles and I elected to ride the following E1234 race, lining up against some big hitters. Knackered from our previous efforts we spent the next hour putting ourselves in the firing line again and again, determined to give a good showing. Unafraid to mix it with the best there was very rarely a moment when a PTWCC jersey wasn’t up near the front making sure the elites and 1st cats didn’t have it all their own way!

Coming in to the sprint I had hoped to give Charles a lead out as an early birthday present (he turns 30 today!) but unfortunately he lost my wheel coming into the finishing straight. Opening up my sprint early again, but jaded from earlier efforts I rolled in about 5th or 6th, shattered!

All in all a good night and some great training. A big well done to all the squadra, including Tank, who’s shouts of ‘Go on Disco!” each lap definitely helped!

Pembrey circuit races next Tuesday and the team will be out in force again, so stay tuned cycling fans for the next thrilling chapter!
