Can anyone who intends to ride the PRESIDENTS ROAD RACE on 21/5/2009 get their entries to me by Saturday the 9/5/2009 at the latest please.

Pip,

You got any entry forms up the house?

I've never raced before, would this be an appropriate race to do for my first?

Also, as I'm not a member of BC yet, am I right in thinking I can enter using a day license?

Yes to both - a Handicap is an excellent race to do for your first race, especially the Presidents as the course is very flat! Give Pip a ring to chat about whether you can enter prior, you 'll save yourself some money that way!

Ok cheers. What do you mean by enter prior? Would I not need a BC membership then?

Have you got Pip's number?

Not quite sure of the rules when it comes to pre entering without a licence, but here is Pips number:

01639793021

Give him a ring and see what he can do. The general rule with Road Races is to enter before the closing date as it costs less, otherwise you have to enter 'on the line' for which the organsier usually charges more, in this case £8 more.

Tony i t can be quite complicated (and expensive) to enter a road race without holding a british cycling racing licence, being a club member i assume that you are a member of british cycling as you need insurance to ride with the club.IT all depends what catergory of event you wish to enter, in our road race you need. , if you are a gold or silver member you need only to pay the entry fee,pre entry is £12 , if you enter on the line or after the closing date the fee is£20, if you have a bronze membership you will have to pay in addition to the entry fee£5. If you are not a member of british cycling you will have to pay in addition to the entry fee£10 this is to pay for a day membership of british cycling .Hope this is not too confusing as i am starting to confuse myself, i dare say the back room lawyers of the club will pull me up if this is the wrong info.P.S. When i state you have to have insurance to ride with the club ,it does not have to be british cycling insurance,it can be ctc(cycling tourist club or belong to the triathalon association,i need a rest now!

Hi Pip,

Thanks for the info.

I joined CTC for the insurance before joining the club as I didn't intend to do any racing then. If I decide to do the race I'll most probably join BC but that won't be in time for the cutoff so I'll have to enter on the day.
