Hi All
Looking to go for a first ride soon asap and wondered what the exact times are and distances. I have looked at the news page and has 2 times for Sat and Tues, or the Fri one at 3pm.
I can basically make anytime but concerned about my fitness..lol since this my first road bike. The furthest i have cycled is Mumbles/Porthcawl from PT.
Any help/advice much appreciated.
Also i understand i need insurance and have seen links, are some free by signing up ?
Also i have not yet acquired a helmut and have never wore one, is this mandatory (obviously recommended)
Cheers

Personaly, what i would do is turn up on friday make sure u enjoy the ride then go to the club house on the friday night with u cheque book see the legend that is "les thoms" fill in a club membership and bcf (silver, he will explain) form give him a cheque and bobs you uncle, below are the 2 links to the 2 forms you will need to print out and take to the club with u on friday.

It does state tho on the ptwcc website that you must have 3rd party insurance before any ride, so technicaly u should join the club and bcf first, so call les thomas first 079676601218 and discuss this with him..

Although, in these days of elf n safety and litigation, we have to be extra careful, we have always allowed - indeed encouraged - people to ride two or three times with us with NO obligation or commitment before signing up.
So, as Charles suggests .....
Turn up Friday, ride and enjoy........ Just please ( if I'm there ) don't give me a kicking !! _______________ Supporting the club that supports you

I did bring this up the other day and Pip replied that members of other clubs are welcome on rides just as you boys are welcome on rides in Cardiff. So what is the problem now?

I havent got a problem with "Mr Hanson", doing what he did on saturday,in principle i agree with other club members joining our rides!!!, what i was implying is that "Mr Hanson" felt that PTWCC "wasnt good enough" for him self, and that he didnt like the way the club was being run and didnt see eye to eye with a few members thus he joined forza, but still turns up to do the PTWCC organized rides, now to me that is a big contradicton and takes the preferable. Now there is a difference to what me and james did the other day on the jiff ride we just tagged along as friends of the jiff club, as we have no intention of leaving the PTWCC and the jiff club members know this and they understand that we like sometimes to vary are training routes and that living in Port Talbot it wouldnt be viable for either of us to be a member of a cardiff run club, so they are ok are more than happy for us to do what we do. And i dont know if any of you lot remember a sunday morning a few months ago when the above mentioned turned up and spoke to me like a 10 year old reference a wheel dave had of his (this is another story) thats why i have a bee in my bonnet !! OK

Well said Charles.
I understand that the said defector defected cos he wanted to race ..........
Of course there is nothing stopping anyone showing their liking and appreciation of another club by joining as a second claim member - that way we would know said rider isn't just taking the p**s. _______________ Supporting the club that supports you

I am still confused.
Is it ok if members of other clubs ride or do they have to be second claim members because (a) Anthony prefers it or (b) the club rules state it.
What ever the articles of the club say that should apply across the board.

At what point in this thread have I stated that my preference is law or that they must be second claim members ?
The rule as passed in the last AGM state that any rider is welcome to ride with the club as long as they are insured. As a committed club member, that is what I will adhere to.
That said, Charlies earlier post summed up the issue perfectly !! _______________ Supporting the club that supports you

oops - stirred it up again haven't I?
I was just using the example of Leighton joining as a way of illustrating (again) the contradiction in our own rules at the moment. Nevermind, it's really not worth getting knickers in a twist over, but we should get this sorted out at the next AGM. _______________ The Force is strong in this one...
