Hi folks,
I'm thinking of joining the club, I've just joined CTC for the insurance etc and wondering what one of your rides would be best to join you on? I'm not too unfit as I've been a mountain biker for years but been out on the road bike more and more over the winter and I've signed up for the Dragon Ride. I have NO experience of riding in a group though.
Cheers
Tony

welcome to the fold mate Theres three rides you can come on. Friday afternoon gentlemans outing to Porthcawl. This is usually recommended for newbies has the ride is gentler. That leaves from the Plaza in Port Talbot at 2 pm.
Saturdays ride is to ewenny cafe which leaves again from the plaza at 10.30am. This is a faster ride than FRiday. The milage is around about 26 miles.
Then the sunday ride starts from the Plaza at 10.00am and the club captain chooses the route. These rides are anything from 40 - 60 miles but are a nice gentle pace.
And dont forget you are welcome down to Friday club night for a cuppa and some good old fashioned banter. Thats down the Taibach community center, and this starts from about 7 pm until 9 pm. so be there or be square

Jump in with both feet mate! I can remember being a bit anxious about joining but had a fantastic welcome and within two years of joining I'd been on a weekend hostel run, been to see the Tour de France, had a week on the Isle of Man*, two camping/racing weekends down Pembroke, organised a time-trial, become club secretary and made a speech at the club dinner!
* Phil/Louise - If you're reading this in Oz, very fond memories of that particular week! _______________ "The most important thing in life is not to have the most, but to need the least.” Plato (my favourite Disney character).

Don't be intimidated, The 10.30 Saturday rides are usually quite steady and only get broken into faster/slower groups at stormy down at which point if you do get dropped ( highly unlikely ) then it's only 4 miles to the cafe at Ewenny. _______________ Supporting the club that supports you

Hi Tony, Dont be put off joining, i have only recently joined and come from a mountain biking backround too, I also had next to no experience of group riding.
Dont worry, everyone ive met are really friendly, the sat rides are excellent, just hang onto someones wheel at the back of the group and enjoy!
You will get the hang of it in no time.
