Serious question - won't he have to lug all that useless upper body muscle up the big climbs?

My sentiments exactly Alf, I thought to myself, if i'm going to lug all this useless wait up hill, it may as well be pies!

Yes that's something I wondered too Alf. On some of the other cycling forums I've been on that sort of debate runs for pages. I think, personal experience here and based on nothing other than my crappy attempt at racing, I feel 'stronger' and more stable on the bike after doing weights. The weights I do aren't bike specific but there are a couple of sessions I do which are high reps low weights which I swear make me feel better on the bike, especially when sprinting. However, this is anectodal, and not combined with a proper bike training regime, so has probably contributed little to the debate! *edit* when I was racing and training *properly* I didn't touch weights or do anything other than bike training. As ordinary cyclists I think it is a good idea to do so all round conditioning as cycling on it's own can lead to imbalances in the muscles. _______________ The Force is strong in this one... |

I thought the same but then watched this video. I reckon if he sheds another 5kg by the tour he'll drop alberto! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM2yA4BRIkc

7 TDF wins and a millions in the bank. I know he is doing it for cancer awareness, but lets be honest, love him or hate him the man has amazing motivation. However, I still think black socks look crap. Sorry Lance.
