First of all just to clarify summut, when i mean BONKING, i dont actualy mean, bonking as in "bonking u bird", i mean bonking as in blowing to pieces on a long ride !!!.

So now its that time of year where we are all out training 15 hours every week !!! what food do you all rely on when ur on last legs miles from home !!!!!

Well mine is either a WELSH CAKE or a FLAP JACK !!

aargghh, Charlie my boy, you been out of touch with modern technology these last few years.

What you find in the "modern" cyclist back pocket is more likely to be one of those new 'Gels'.
All wrapped up in plastic and foil, with easy  to open packets!
Come in all flavours, (even chocolate), and textures.

I have tried them all in the 6 yrs I have been doing triathlons and must admit that High5 is the favourite of the bunch.

Yes flapjacks are also great, but a bit chewy sometimes in the cold.

I know Dai Smith likes a few Jelly babies, which are a handy 'pick me up'

I remember 'BONKING' years ago. I was out on the road with my mountain bike, very little to drink and no money. I was feeling good so I did about 20 miles extra. What a big mistake and I learned a valuable lesson that day. My speed dropped to slow jogging pace and all I wanted to do was go to sleep. I nearly stopped to beg for something sweet and something to drink in a shop. I eventually got home, fell on the living room floor and screamed (In a nice sort of way) at my dear wife to get me an easter egg (Yes, it was easter time) which I scoffed down. Can't remember what I drank. I then fell to sleep for 4 hrs on the couch. It took me about 3 to 4 days to fully recover. Death stared me in the face that day (Wrote that for dramatic effect). Now I always carry money, food etc. A honey flapjack would be great. You couldn't go far wrong with a mars bar for a quick boost and plenty of fluid. I now always try to be fully hydrated before going out, although the old bladder isn't what it used to be. It's good if you can spot the signs of bonking at an early stage before it really knocks you to six. You have to experience it to fully appreciate what it can do to you and thank heaven for mobile phones.

It must only affect thoroughbreds like you boys and not 'diesels' like me. I've never experienced it or anything close to it.

As Bruce and Tess might say. "Keep dancing eating".
