There's only one Champion in my eyes and thats PHIL(THE POWER)TAYLOR!. Now I know wot ur all thinking , but put it this way ,loving the local boozer as I do I'm a better dart player than a cyclist(I know thats not hard but anyway).
I thought I'd post this thread to see if anyone else out there are better at something other than the're beloved cycling. I'ts only a bit of fun so all you die hard fans of promoting the club (which I'm proud to be a member of for I think the last 16years or so) have a pop its just a bit of fun!!!! Don't forget SCORING FOR SHOW DOUBLES FOR DOUGH !!!!!! LOL

Er, has anybody actually read Andy's post?

He's not asking us to name our non-cycling heroes but to announce what else we are/were good at.

I was a pretty fast sprinter (runner) at school and wish I'd pursued that further. Apart from that I played soccer for Port Talbot Athletic in the late 70's as a tough-tackling full back with fond memories of playing in the snow at Croeserw on a pitch with so much slope you couldn't see the legs of players on the other side of the pitch.

'The dog whisperer' :- I used to train working spaniels, and had the top British working cocker spaniel for 2yrs. Also trained a 3 times Canadian springer national champion. Didn't want to say all that really because it is boastful and not all that funny. So you can see that cycling isn't one of my strengths (No kidding!!) but I did actually read Andy's post. Woof woof.

Mainly rag and BONE Alf. Back in 1989 when people started saying that the CO-OP was going to the dogs I did catch one moonlighting on the biscuit section in the Skewen branch.

I got two words for you Anthony, BIG BOOTS!

It's not a proud boast, but a sad fact Andy. Over Christmas I excelled at consuming mince pies, quality street, roses, selection boxes, nuts, choco-----.

Er, how about 6th out of 10 in the Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships? I'm on this page somewhere :)

http://www.concept2.co.uk/racing/result.php?race=welshirc2008

Also competed in the 1987 National Bridge Championships and came plum last out of over 200 entries. Love the story about the Cocker Spaniels. Brilliant.

1 of the reason i left the world of skinny tyres, lycra wearing and ridiculous helmets that we all know as cycling nearly 12 years ago, was motorcycle racing. I can never claim to be a champion during the 10years i competed because, and i dont use this as an excuse, i always competed at british championship races and never was one to race in a championship below my capabilities and become a glory hunter

But racing over them 10 years im proud to say ive competed against and beaten some current world class stars.

The highlight of my carer was 2000 when i competed in a british production championship, against some, now, current world superstars, one of which was CASEY STONER 2007 MOTOGP WORLDCHAMPION, where i have photographic proof of pushing him to the max and finishing a very close second and leagues ahead from all the rest during the final round of the 2000 125 britsh championship.....

The penny has only just dropped. I thought it was some sort of drag hunting term....

So, once again, what work do your doggies actually do?

I AIN'T getting involved in this one! Anyway BIG BOOTS aren't your problem Anthony, they're your heroes downfall. Strange how to threads have ended up at the same point, I think we four need to get out on the bikes more.

If it takes you a week to get one of my jokes Alf then I will have to indicate with the letter 'J' in brackets after every attempt I make at humour (J). Sorry Alf, didn't mean to patronise you, but I did have to wait a long time for that penny to drop.
The dogs were gundogs (I know, why would anyone trust a dog with a gun even if they weren't even rottweilers)(J) which competed in tests in the summer months and trials during the winter. The dogs were judged on their style, steadiness, retrieving, mouth softness, silence, handling, courage in heavy cover, scenting ability, obedience to the handler. I also did a bit of judging during my time. There are loads of books written by professional gundog trainers. Oh no, this is getting serious again. I want to get back to the light hearted conversation. If you want details Alf then you have my phone number. It's an old habit, but I have to go walkies now before Eleanor gives my stomach a good rub (J)

I remember attending the Carmarthenshire sheep dog trials a few years back, it wasn't a pleasant experience. Four out of the five were found guilty, the last one got off on a technicality
