NON-MEMBER FORUM JUNKIES

THis is an open forum where anyone, whether member or non member can post.

Wrong.

Only members and a few known and trusted friends and guests can post and this privilege can be taken away with just a few key strokes.

Paul - Why don't you give me a call sometime as I'd like to chat through a few things with you.

Better than that paul, Come and have chat with me complete with a membership form and £20 and you can comment on this forum to your hearts content...........You don't have to ride a bike to be a member of the club, club membership is about being part of a worthile activity. Not necessarily racing or even riding. The banter is good on here, but its also good on club nights....... Honest

You ain't wrong there Alf, and I 'm sure there are still one or two hardened committee men still not prepared to broach the subject and raise their heads above the parrapets after the barracking the subject received in the afore mentioned A.G.M.,but in saying that I don't think all the pros for the change were put accross to the membership and I think there were a lot more pros than cons, but, thats just my opinion.

I think you need to read this again Anthony,No blame put on the committee, just trying to highlight the thin ice young Charlie was about to skate on. I notice this thread has gone the same way as the A.G.M,and the whole thing has been railroaded down the "they only want to go there for the drinking" scenario. This subject needs to thought out and discussed at meeting level.

Could be down club night instead of on the computer !!
Come to think of it even better, I could be down the pub instead of on the computer !!!

Kevin, I will repeat stuff that was discussed two years ago ...... the committee's view was always .........
that we should find a venue more condusive to an atmosphere that would encourage greater attendance at club night and at a smaller cost
It just happened that Aberavon Rugby club offered such - and free !!

Les I think you need to talk to our outgoing treasurer to get more accurate figures of club night expenses.

We cannot force the membership to accept anything it doesn't like and we must live with consequence of those votes ... as must the members too !!

Anthony, I don't know which way your reading this, but I'm not having a go at the committee.

"but in saying that I don't think all the pros for the change were put accross to the membership and I think there were a lot more pros than cons, but, thats just my opinion."

Well i didnt realise that it was such a controversial subject, i give my apologise to those who've ended up haveing a bit of flak over this subject, but one thing i must say, if my calculations are correct there are 8 members discussing this subject thats 3 more than normaly attend the club on a friday ?!?!?!?...

I think that one thing thats deffinatly been highlighted here is that a friday club night needs to have more activities to draw in the crowds !!!, so why dont we take a lesson from this, be it the club stay where it is, moves to another venue, lets make it a bit more inviting to all age groups and all types of cyclist...

I know your all thinkin, ive only been back in the club 5mins, but having 12years away it was a shock, and no offence is ment in any way whatsoever to anybody or anything, seeing what has changed in the club compared to the good ole years of the 90's !!

Im more than prepared to get involved with others to organise activities mabey once a month on a friday,as pip said there are rollers there to use, mabey a circuit training sesion im sure mr tobin could help there.

Anyway i better stop chuntering away before someone ellects me for primeminister or something !!!

"Les I think you need to talk to our outgoing treasurer to get more accurate figures of club night expenses."

Thanks Anthony I will.

Just to clarify my position (as if there was any doubt).

I have put my head above the parapet and stated quite a bit really but hear goes again for those who didn't hear the first time

1. In a vote I will not support moving the club night to a Rugby club
2. I do not think for one minute that having the club night in a rugby club or pub will attract more attendees. Rugby Clubs and cycling clubs are atotally different culture. Is there a running club that meets regularly in the area that we could affiliate with to share expenses. This i would be supportive of
3. I am keen for change and therefore would be supportive of a move to a leisure centre or similar
4. I believe that rather than moving the venue to a lounge bar we need to introduce something to attract our members to the night not resign ouselves to the fact that "times have changed blah blah"
5. There appears to be some interest in the idea of a monthly roller league even from some of those who don't attend the club night at present

I have been down the club tonight (11 attendees double the average wow. club nights must be picking up). Yep we have two sets of rollers and clocks so my initial thoughts are Roller league is entirely feasible. How about if we run them fortnightly say five events 16th jan, 30th Jan, 13th Feb (someones bound to fall off), 27th Feb and 13th March (ooh the ides of March) is that a good idea. Is that too much, what format do you suggest I reckon either 500m or 1000m rounds with the winner through to next round loser to repechage then straight knock outs points awarded for each event.

Anyone interested, I'm sure we could charge spectators imagine disco ball Crowley verses the dark destroyer reynolds, or the tallest man in the club versus the shortest, James versus Rhys on rollers got to be worth seeing. We could do a £2.00 entry £1 towards the hire of the room £1 to the prize pot..

Or shall we go down the pub..... coule, croise, feint and lunge......

Les splendid idea !!!!!

Was up the track with griff tonight, im sure we could coax him into attending a few of these 2 !!!

I think uve voluntired less to organise this !!! lol, start a new thread to see the intrest then off we go, i will be prepare to print 98 flyers (the amount of members we have) and post to each of them, would the club be prepared to pay for the stamps?, ive give my time free,my other half will design the flyers free, as she is a graphic designer and i thinks thats then called bobs your uncle !!!

THis is an open forum where anyone, whether member or non member can post. Until the club have a members section only then you have no right to tell people where to post or what to post. If this is your ad other peoples atitude then I dont know i I want to join again. I am offended by your comments to be honest!!

Didnt mean to offend ya, just thought a subject like this should only have feedback from people who get involved in the clubs activities and cycling in general..

I'm sorry Charles ;) . I was off handed towards you ;)

Well, what do you know 36 replies and 562 views, that's just about enough interest to make this worthwile for a first attempt at a roller league starting Friday 16th Jan.

Charles I don't think we need fliers as I'm sure we can make everyone aware before that. What I would like however is for anyone interested to come down the club friday 9th jan as we need to make sure everything is working and to finalise rules etc.

Thoughts to date are

1. 500m heats, winner progresses to the next round.
2. Final to be 1000m
3. Times taken for each individual and used to award points to those who don't get through to the next round.

Items left for discussion, what bikes are allowable, road or track, if were going to use road bikes to allow more to take part are we going to limit gearing?

We'll need volunteers to hold people up, time keepers etc etc etc

Lets keep this thread going with ideas / sudggestions

Looks likes its rock and roller ahaha excuse the pun les

Regaurding the flyers, aslong i can have each members post code and house number i got a system in work that will print adress labels in seconds, one thing u need to remember les not every member is a computer geek like us 2 !!!, also any stagnent members who dont keep in touch with anyone sending flyers would reach them tooo !!! Also if the roller racing goes well would u be intrested in contacting other localish clubs to invite there members down for an invation race on the last date. JD mentioned that there may be bcf rules and regs regaurding roller racing which may be worth looking at!!, ie gear restrictions

Start a new thread tho les "PTWCC WINTER ROLLER LEAGUE"
