Whilst driving to the velodrome yesterday one subject pip and i talked about as we were trying to put the world to rite, was the posiblity of moving the club room to a local ruby club, either taibach or aberavon which 1 off them was mentioned im not sure, but its def 1 of the 2. 1 of the benefits pip highlighted was the bonus of being able to use the gym/weight room facilities at the club. !!!! I think the opurtunity to have facilities at members feet to benefit the use of is a chance not to pass by, also the sport we all love and want to see grow in popularity would get a great chance to be introduced to a whole new world of sports men/women that could benefit them selves by getting introduced to cycling.

Definatly think feedback on this subject from members of the club, and im going to highlight feeback from MEMBERS only please and not the NON-MEMBER FORUM JUNKIES !! LOL, would be appriciated. Also if any other cycling club members are reading this topic that have a facility of a gym or a clubroom shared with a different sport as mention please post any comments good or bad .

Yes, tread carefully on this one Charles as it has previously been put before the membership and, indeed, discussed at an AGM with a very strong mandate from the membership on keeping the status quo ("whatever you want, whatever you like";).

This was just over two years ago and I don't think much has changed since then. Always nice to have fresh ideas though Charles.

You ain't wrong there Alf, and I 'm sure there are still one or two hardened committee men still not prepared to broach the subject and raise their heads above the parrapets after the barracking the subject received in the afore mentioned A.G.M.,but in saying that I don't think all the pros for the change were put accross to the membership and I think there were a lot more pros than cons, but, thats just my opinion.

Non- member forum Junkies, I like that can you please explain.
Is it simular to a non racing member or a winter racing junkie.

That's rich !!! Blame the committee !!!

Is that why there is an average attendance of five ( on a good night ) members -at club night -out of 98 paid up last year -

I will stick my head above the parrapet with Chips here. I am in agreement that the Club night, as a form of club socialising and information exchange is a dying concept. With the advent of the internet, email, increased car usage, the need or desire for a weekly meet is not there anymore. I think even the stalwarts of a Friday night would have to accept that it is a loss making, largely underused aspect of club life.

However, moving it to a Rugby Club, an all that is associated with, does present a certain image that may not be conducive to promoting cycling and the club as a healthy lifestyle. For younger members that is worth considering. (That is a largely academic point, we don't have many youngsters!) But many existing members have children, and wonder how they would feel about bringing their kids to a Rugby Club on a Friday night.

I like the point about access to the gym, certainly attractive and may allay fears outlined above. All I can suggest is that the topic is mooted here until Oct, so a rounded view can be formed, and it is put to the floor.

Personally I am in favour of it.

Whilst I agree that it seems that the Club night is not as well supported as it once was, I will also stick my head above the parapet and state that I am against this proposal.

As far as I am aware the hire of the club room is £18 per night. I personally pay £2 every week and I guess with the other 5 people (your estimate not mine) we get some where near £10 income most weeks. Our loss is therefore something like £8:00 per week or £400 a year

In the last committee meeting we discussed the financing of couple of hundred quid for two track nights in january.

It is right and proper that both these expenses should be supported as they satisfy the needs a club with various categories of membership.

As a voluntary organisation we are a democracy and as such I would argue strongly that such a decision could only be made via the AGM or a Special General meeting. Personally I would strongly argue against such a move as I would not be able to cycle to the club on a Friday which would affect my enjoyment of the sport. Having said that if the majority wanted the change then so be it.

I might be supportive of maybe utilising a local leisure centre as this could afford other members to attend the Gym then join in with the club night. On the other hand I would be against holding the meeting in a rugby club as I do not think it will attract more members as cycling and Rugby are totally different cultures.

If you want to have drink with your mates there are 6 other days to do that as you do not have to organise anything......(I do two every week, Tuesdays and Sundays the farmers arms in nottage great music, good beer. Lets start a new club night there see if you can leave as P!"£ssed as me).. In other words there's a pub near you dying to have your trade boys so go on, have a ball but lets leave club nights out of it.

No matter how hard I try I dont think I will be able to leave the Farmers in the same state as you Les. You have one hell of a reputation.
My suggestion is to put something on once a month at the club. E.G. Turbo night, Fitness Lecture or stretching exercises or even home brew, anything to up the numers from 5.

i will add my tuppence worth now, most cycling clubs meet up after club events at pubs especially after the event , the basic idea of the rugby club being mentioned was to use their excellent training facilities especially during the winter months ,and a possibility of a grass track events in the summer, for the kids .The club night is dying ,so lets have some constructive ideas how it can be revived

THis is an open forum where anyone, whether member or non member can post. Until the club have a members section only then you have no right to tell people where to post or what to post. If this is your ad other peoples atitude then I dont know i I want to join again. I am offended by your comments to be honest!!

Didnt mean to offend ya, just thought a subject like this should only have feedback from people who get involved in the clubs activities and cycling in general..
