Road racers James Lewis and Dave Crowley did the club proud today finishing second and third respectively in a closely fought FORZA CYCLES CRIT at Llandow, only losing 1st spot by a matter of centimetres the race went from the gun from the first lap, and the boys were involved in every break , especially Dave, but after an hour it came down to a sprint, so well done the boys , keep it up for the Maindy series starting Thursday.

Brilliant news Pip... and those that accuse us of having a 'cafe culture' please take note!

A report from our man in the field...
Cheers Pip for the kudos, much appreciated. I promised to write something up last night, but an extended ride back over the Bwlch meant I was physically incapable of moving when I got home! A sunny day greeted the PTWCC hit squad at the last road event of the season and after a few weeks of alternating between playing in the mud and sipping champagne with the stars it was time to get back to work and fly some club colours. James and I got to the start line in varying degrees of readiness. James was coughing away - citing a chest infection, while I (ever the professional) had ridden over from Port Talbot and was now so hungry I ate one of James' gels, wrapper and all. I figured that if I ride over I would be properly warmed up. In reality, all it did was deprive me of one more excuse for the first half of the race, as I still suffered like a dog. Anyway, a field of almost 30 riders lined up on this sunny day, with a strong Cwmcarn and Forza squad. The flag dropped and straight away an attack went out. However the bunch was eager and nothing was going to get away today. The Port Talbot were sharp however, and several times managed to get in promising moves. About a quarter of the way in I found myself in a promising little break of 5, with all the major teams represented. James 'The Human Train' bridged across, and we soon had almost half a lap on the chasing bunch. Unfortunately the peloton were in an enthusiastic mood today, and we got swallowed up. (this is despite James' blistering pace up the finishing straight that had me cross eyed everytime he hit the front!). This set the scene for the next 45minutes, with a keen bunch never letting much get away. The Port Talbot worked well, and were never caught out. If anything did get away, on James' insistence I would hit the front and 'Smash It!' to get him across, or bring them back. Despite this - it looked like a bunch sprint was on the cards, and so it was we went into the final corner, with the long windy, uphill straight between us and the finish line. All that training sprinting for Margam came flooding back, and we opened up or sprint. Regrettably a Cwmcarn rider had the drop on us by a couple of feet, but it was now or never, and with my team sprinter safely tucked on my wheel I ripped up the straight. Riders were dying all around as their over enthusiasm came back to bite, before the silohette of James blotted out the sun and came round me taking second. I came in third, ending a good race and season for the PTWCC. Roll on Maindy crits! _______________ The Force is strong in this one... |
