On a warm night we set of in what some wags dubbed the '3rds and birds' group. (ok I came up with the name) which wasn;t as easy as it sounds, with the Olympic Development women's squad and a couple of world champs thrown in. However, I soon settled in to a nice spot at the back, where James would sometimes come and visit to tell me to 'get off my arse and do some work!'
However, a lack of bike training, and a heavy week in the gym led to some dead legs and an inability to do much other than hang on.
After a few laps on a slightly tumpy' course, with the bunch not really working (no thanks to me!
) we were not gaining on the front group, who had a geneorus 5minutes on us. James and Jon I have to say, worked tirelessly, and you could guarantee that any time the pace slackened, the James Lewis steam train would come tearing up to the front. However, depsite their efforts, we were caught by the elites with 1/2 lap to go, but never caught the front group. We all finished in the bunch, with James and Jon in front of me.Thouroughly knackered, but good training for the Ras, and roll on the Presidents next week!
(PS - I really can't say enough about how well the boys, especially James, were going last night. Top men).
