They are taking entries on the line, HQ is in Bailey PArk in Abergavenny, price twenty pounds, start (for the 100 mile ride) is at 10.00am. (you can always cut it short and do the shorter routes if it gets too much!) I'm entered and going up anyway.

I'll be there. Riding it with 2 mates who've never ridden further than 50 miles before. should be interesting. see you there.

Well I have now done my first Sportive event. Was not quite sure what to expect, had it in my head it would be a nice gentle club ride. Turns out it was actually an extended road race! Havigng trained solidly on weights and circuits for the week prior to the event my legs were quite dead, and if I had known how serious it was, I would have taken my prep a little more seriuously.
We set out from Aber at a modest speed, before being lined out for the first fifty miles! THere were a few nasty drags which whittled the group down, befire hitting the tumble 50 miles into the ride. Having not riddedn more than 50 miles in quite a while I knew I would struggle here. I was in a lead group of about 6-7, bt lost contact about 1/3 of the way up the climb. AS Sherwen would say 'there was panic on board'. The tumble is a brutal climb, an unlike the bwlch, due to it's varying terrain it is impossible to find a good rythm. I found myself on my own across the moors for the next 10-20 miles, but fortunately a group of about 6 caught me, and we managed to get a good turn of speed going until the finish (despite numerous drags and climbs). Must say I was absolutely bushed, but considering I haven't been puttin int he miles was pleased with how I coped, and how well I recovered. Did the whole event in just over 5hrs.
Can't speak highly enough about the event, well organised, excellent marshalls and sign posting, well stocked feed stations. Will def being doing it again next year!
