I can concur with this from recent experience - after my spate of punctures I bought a Pro Race 2 for the back of my Monoc, and I felt immediately how much faster I was going. It probably didn't help that the old tyre had been somewhat flattened off with use, but it's definitely good news.
I'm not sure it helped me all that much in the Open 50 though on Sunday morning. It didn't get a chance. By the end of it I'd cycled through so much water I literally had to pour the water out of my frame afterwards
