Excuse my ignorance, but shouldn't the vets, whether their 3rd or 4th cat be eligable to ride in the group designated as 4th cat, VETS and ladies?. If not I fail to see the benefit of it being a handicapped event.

As you set it out there that's not a problem. The trouble starts when you get 2nd cat vets sneaking into the group. Slightly unfair to give a 41 year old 2nd/1st cat guy a 10min head start! Agree that 3rd and below vets should be able to go first though. _______________ The Force is strong in this one... |

When I used to run it I used to advertise it as "the event where a vet is a vet" but, I must admit, that most officials turned a blind eye whereas they should have taken action to the contrary for exactly the same reason as Davey has highlighted. It's not as if there's BC points at stake!

I think any rider over the age of 40 has earned the right to be classed as a vet irrespective of ability and fitness and taking those riders out of the vets group, takes any competition that that group may display out of the race and leaving the group with no chance in hell of ever staying away. So the lesser fit vets, ladies and 4th cats may as well not enter and just ride around the course after the sag wagon.

I think last night's performance contradicted your statement a bit there. The lead group could have stayed away quite comfortably, even without the 2nd cats. No - what gets the front group in the end is the fact that no one works. It wouldn't take alot of effort for the front group to hold an 8min lead, I mean you had 1.45 on us coming into the last lap! _______________ The Force is strong in this one... |

I wasn't too concerned about the 2nd and 3rd cat vets but the 4 th cats i.e Mr Abbott and the likes, who worked their thruppennies off in the attempt to keep the first group away. If we had been without these 6-10 riders the other two groups would have caught us on the second lap. My thinking was that a vet is a vet no matter what his/her ability may be and it must be the lesser fit vet riders( i.e myself )aim to be fit enough to compete with in the group. Anyhoo! must say, another well organised race and although I had a thorough kicking I really enjoyed. Cheers Pip,well done to the boys who done the lions share on the front, and well done all the P.T.W riders Oh! and thanks Davey C for those words of encouragment as I limped shame faced back to the H.Q.
