Light rain showers with a moderate breeze (12mph) - Race Time Temp 17°C

Due to the continuing roadworks it looks like we'll be on the back road for at least another three weeks but with 36 hours to go we have a slightly improving weather situation for our back road '10' and even it is raining we don't have to worry about road spray so the event will go ahead regardless of a bit of drizzle.

OK. Moving on to the time-trial itself here are the essentials;

1. We meet up at the Neath Canal Car Park in Resolven for signing on from about 18.10hrs and closing at 18.40hrs for a prompt 19.00hrs race start up near Glynneath.

2. You have to be a member of the PTW or a second-claim member of the PTW. There is no 'single race' fee - you have to join the club as a first-claim or second-claim member and for 2024 this is now £40.00 (£30.00 + £10.00 supplement).

RC10/22G 'BACK ROAD' COURSE DESCRIPTION

START on the B4242 Old Vale of Neath Road at the entrance to F.E. Chick just north-east of Rheola Pond. Proceed south-west on the B4242 to Resolven junction. Continue south-west on the B4242 passing through Abergarwed village and Ynysarwed village to the 'Rock and Fountain' hill, climb and continue to TURN with care at the break in the dual-carriageway opposite the Groundhog factory at Ynysgerwen, SA10 8HH (5.0 miles).

Descend hill and retrace route north-eastwards along the B4242 through Ynysarwed village and Abergarwed village. Continue north-eastwards through Resolven junction and past Rheola Pond to FINISH directly opposite the start.

Not too bad a night and at least it was dry. For a variety of reasons a few riders went backwards this week but surging forward was Rob Jones (Merthyr CC) who took the win by a useful margin from Neil Gregory who was 'doing a Grog' by riding to the event and back home. At the other end of the result sheet it was great to welcome Simon Kinsey and his Virtual CC clubmate Jeff Rees.

Sometimes Alfie's MOTM goes to a 'trier' and sometimes it goes to a 'flyer' but I must go 'flyer' this week and award it to Rob Jones for taking the win. Well done Rob!

As always, thanks to Dai and Will for their usual good work and to JD and Joan for covering the turn and to John Shehan for covering the Resolven 'T' junction. John please say thank you from me to Marilyn for the cakes!
