"Strong winds and light rain showers"

Very windy by the look of it boys and girls. This event replaces the Presidents Handicap Road Race and it's worth mentioning that our club event 25's will now almost certainly run as 13's using our relatively new 13 course on the back road. Not ideal but it does look like road works will affect the DC for a couple of years.

R10/23 ‘BACK ROAD’ COURSE DESCRIPTION

R10/23 START on the B4242 Old Vale of Neath Road at the entrance to F.E. Chick just north-east of Rheola Pond. Proceed south-west on the B4242 to Resolven junction. Continue south-west on the B4242 passing through Abergarwed village and Ynysarwed village to the ‘Rock and Fountain’ hill, climb and continue to TURN with care at the break in the dual-carriageway opposite the Groundhog factory at Ynysgerwen, SA10 8HH (5.0 miles).

Descend hill and retrace route north-eastwards along the B4242 through Ynysarwed village and Abergarwed village. Continue north-eastwards through Resolven junction and past Rheola Pond to FINISH directly opposite the start.

It really is looking very windy at race time (60mph) so look out for an announcement on whether tonight's event goes ahead. Check-in here at about 15.00hrs and I'll ask someone to post on FB too.

I've agonised over this boys and girls but I'm calling it OFF.

Whilst we haven't had the bad rain we were expecting it is still showing rain at race time and wind speeds of 64mph in the Resolven area - it's actually a Yellow Weather Warning. I don't think anybody needs to be grovelling down to the turn in that.

Sincere apologies to anyone who was relishing the challenge of riding in that. Take care out there.

No worries, Alf. Perhaps I'll go to the Aberdulais driving range instead and watch my tee shots go 350m with a howling tail wind. And that's with a 9 iron.
