Following the latest update from the Welsh Government I thought I'd share the latest updates in the Covid guidance that Welsh Cycling have released today. These are based around today’s updates from the First Minister and also in light of advice they have taken via the Welsh Sport Association.
The key updates from the Welsh Government include:
• Return to outdoor organised activity for adults for up to 30 people can resume from 26 April (participants under the age of 11 do not count towards the 30 limit)
• Indoor Group activity for up to 15 adults can restart from the 3 May, the same day as the reopening of indoor sporting facilities. The restart of group activity had previously been planned for the 17 May. Numbers for under 18s are not limited and can start from the 3 May but should still respect physical distancing requirements and the wider guidance on gathering indoors.
• Up to six people from any household can meet outside from the 24 April
• Wales to move to alert level 3 from the 3rd May
Today's announcements are an exciting step forward, and Welsh Cycling have also taken advice from the Welsh Sports Association. In light of these changes, we are pleased to be able to make some significant steps forward in our guidance on resuming activity.
The law in Wales also requires that clubs and groups have a COVID Officer who has completed the WSA COVID awareness training. This person should either be present or is responsible for ensuring those delivering activities follow COVID procedures (including protocols to collect and store the details of all participants for track and trace and a risk assessment that covers COVID is in place for all activities We have that in Place and both myself and Spot have attended the COVID course
For activities that take place on highways, trails, and tracks, recreation rides must adhere to the guidance set out in ‘The Way Forward’. This means that group size is limited to 15 participants (provided leader/group ratios are followed) and that riders can now ride two abreast (as detailed on page 10 of ‘The Way Forwards’).
• When stopping at cafes or other stops (including before or after the ride), please note that the rule of 6 people from any household will apply plus 2m social distancing measures – so we will need to plan any stops accordingly
Official Club rides and TTS can therefore commence provided we follow social distancing and restrict group rides to less than 16 as Monday 26th as long as everyone declares any symptoms and signs up to track and trace requirements.
