New for 2020 is the Road Bike Championship introduced to reflect a recent trend in time-trialling where, increasingly, there are road bike categories and awards. We're all grown-up so we all know what a road bike is but, to clarify, aero road bikes are allowed but tri-bars and disc wheels are not.

It works differently to the main club points championship in that points are allocated from the bottom up so that if only two riders are on road bikes then points are allocated 1 for the slowest and 2 for the fastest. If three riders are on road bikes then points are allocated 1 for the slowest and 3 for the fastest.

Final Position after 8 Events (8 Events Scheduled)

RIDER POINTS
JAMES LEWIS 6 (21:43)
DARREN EDWARDS 6 (22:04)
KARL REES 5
BILL GANNON 1
JULIAN BROCK 1
ALAN JONES 1

I was on a road bike (no tri-bars) on Thursday therefore, for no other reason than to be perverse, I can claim some points.

It was raining when I left Clydach, and what with the humidity I could barely see where I was going, so I didn't want the choice of bike to be making things any harder. Similarly on the way home it was almost completely dry all the way to Birchgrove, where it started spotting. Literally as I crossed the Glais roundabout the drizzle thickened into proper rain. Welcome home.

Electric bikes are great. They give ordinary people the chance to know what it feels like to be me.

We almost had a three-way tie for first place but Karl Rees couldn't quite get to our final event. With a tie for first place between James Lewis and Darren Edwards then our inaugural Road Bike TT Championship is decided on 'best time' so congratulations to 'Tank' for winning this.

Whilst it didn't quite capture the imagination this year we'll try it again in 2021.
