Rather boringly, the New Year's Day 10 is on January 1st (starting at 11.00hrs).

Many of you will know that across the UK we now have a new 'red light' rule (actually a regulation) that states;

“No competitor shall be permitted to start either a Type A or Type B event unless such competitor has affixed to the rear of their machine a working rear red light, either flashing or constant, that is illuminated and in a position that is clearly visible to other road users.”

Whilst a relaxation of this new regulation has been granted for all Christmas and New Year's Day events this regulation is here to stay so it might be worth getting into the swing of things straight away.

There seem to be very few rear lights that actually work with an aero post. Even amongst those that do fit, there are reports that they move around in use. Certainly I don't own any.

I therefore resorted to attaching an old metal bracket to my rear brake, in my usual Heath Robinson affair, so that I could mount a regular light on it. However, the rear brake of my previous TT bike was behind the bottom bracket!

Even then, the whole thing has shaken itself loose once, so my rear brake started coming off. I've had to realise that when I hear a rattling noise behind me that sounds like the bike is beginning to fall apart, it actually is.

Anyway, if there are known solutions to these problems, and as usual I just don't know them, please feel free to share.

I use a Cateye rapid X3 with an under saddle bracket.

There is also eg the "Cateye Rapid Series Rubber Adapter" which helps with attaching a light to an aero seat post.
