Thanks for the invite boys.
Great organisation again. We have e mails, websites and mobile phones and we still cant get a ride organised.

i think it was the spur of the moment thing. it was a nice day so Jeff decided to take us over the Bwlch.

The 09.30 ride left the Plaza at 09.30.

Am I missing something here?

It must be that hour Jugsy lost on the 8:30 ride going over the Rhigos and the Bwlch a fortnight ago!

What you are missing is the fact that when the 09.30 changes its route members are normally informed. e.g. rhigos- bwlch. Neath & Swansea members get picked up in Neath. So any changes to the route members who dont live around the corner from the plaza can still meet the group. It does Pi** you off when you make evry effort to get there are 5 minutes late and everyone has gone. Any one of the forms off communication I mentioned earlier could have sorted this out.

Right. Got you.

Altering the route willy nilly is always going to cause problems. The old 09.30 ride was a good un and perhaps (as I've previously suggested) the first Saturday of the month could be used as the 'special' day for Rhigos/Bwlch or both. If the weather is bad on the 'special' day then the group can make a change of plan although I accept that this doesn't cater for riders who are late.

As Jugsy was nominated Saturday 9:30 ride captain, I think his choice of route should be final(which is dictated on the day by the weather). In all fairness to the man he did state earlier on this forum that the ride would leave at exactly 9:30,He also gave out his mobile number for those who had a back problem on a Saturday morning.

Why didn't you phone juggsy on his mobile? That's what I do if I'm running late. He always has it with him.

I did. I went to Chips house to see if he knew where they went and then he rang Jugsy and James. No answer. Time aprox 09.40

Fair enough. Can't answer for Juggs or James there. However, if I am running late, get to the Plaza and eveyone's gone, I just accept it as my fault for being late. I wouldn't hold it against the group for leaving at the appointed time.
I also think (a la Isaac) that if the club captain wishes to change the route of the 9.30 route that is his perogative. It has been and is frequently subject to such change. I wouldn't take the 9.30 route for granted.

I sympathise with the breakdown in communication last week , but as already stated above, in the absence of any other information, the responsibility has to be on the rider to get to the plaza on ( or before ) time. Otherwise we will have groups leaving every other 15 minutes !!

dave lloyd i agrea with you and i think they are missing the point. but you could talk about it all day and they would still say hard luck you should be on time. ;) ;)

The 9.30 ride was decided on down the club on Friday night. That's why I was a hour late.

I think the the missed point was that there was no one amongst the regular 9.30 riders speaking to anyone else about where the ride was going..... except those at club night Friday !
Dave LL,
for you, it is unfortunate that if you are late and the ride goes eastwards, you could still pick it up as it goes towards you out of town BUT if it goes west, you got no chance !!!!

Hmmm ... I don't think that is really an issue as we all know that the route can and often does change on the day.
There is no real precedent for informing 9.30 regulars or even the group as a whole regarding route changes. (other than the odd chat on here - which I don't think establishes any policy or reliable pattern)
Indeed - Juggsy put the club on notice before Christmas that he would ty to take the 9.30 group on more challenging mountainous rides whenever weather permitted. http://www.porttalbotwheelers.co.uk/UseBB/topic.php?id=92

This can often only be decided on the day.

The only established and written rule is that the ride leaves at 9.30.
