There were some cracking rides tonight on a very wet night with most riders busting a gut to avoid getting stuck by lightning! It was a horrible combination of being dry whilst signing-on and gathering for the start but then heavy rain opening up.
Anyway, first off was our Shirl - fresh from her Carten success and soon refreshed from the rain. I think Shirley might have hid under an overbridge somewhere but if Mrs. Howell was disappointed, Mr. Howell (Senior) was an early pace-setter... and that's not often said.
As usual, John Thomas looked as if he'd given it all he had whilst Paul Naysmith crossed the line as sedately as usual. It was nice to see Bob Hancock on the start line tonight and, I believe, become the first rider to ride a PTW club event with disc brakes. Will was speechless. Welcome back Bob and well done.
Our Abercynon visitors seem to be closely matched at the moment with Neil Meredith edging out Gareth Hill. We had a couple of 23's from our 'tri' boys, Chris Lewis and Heath Williams, before our first 22 of the night from young Lewis Donovan who also scooped the 'Best Haircut' award. It really does need to be seen to be believed and Dai Triggs was green with envy.
Darren Edwards, our road race champion, is really getting into this TT'ing lark now and knocked out a short 23 before a cluster of 22's and 21's from our final five with Neil Seaward jumping over Dean Ware to claim third with Rod Hicks second and Chris Jones beginning to push on with a short 21. Well done to all riders tonight, it couldn't have been easy with heavy rain on greasy roads after the long dry spell and the excitement of thunder and lightning.
Special thanks to Dai, Nigel and Will for their support on the night. Great work guys.
