OK thanks to everyone for helping out on a very busy night and especially Will and Bill. Some of the times are a bit dodgy as we had some riders not filling in their rider number at the sign on, an unusually high number of two's and three's finishing at the same time and an irate lady motorist deciding to stop at the finish and berate us (well dealt with by Pip).

I think it's clear to everyone by now that this club event is now getting out of hand a bit and is effectively becoming a mini open event but organised on the night in a mad scramble. I feel we need to cool demand by raising our prices from £3 to £5 and/or restricting our guest riders perhaps to those who have joined as second claim and accepting no more. The committee will discuss this at the earliest opportunity but your thoughts are welcome.

Well, I think you could justify a rule like that until say June. Demand cools off after that, and it would be a shame to close ourselves off to all newcomers just because of a few mad nights in April.

By the way, what was the lady driver's beef? I still don't see what's wrong with finishing on the bridge.

Message from Richard Watts on the face book page.

Not sure who to contact and as a new member of the club not on the PTW forum. However I managed to place 27th and 39th at last nights TT :) happy to take the points though as its a combined 20. Time on my garmin was close 26:00 so I believe 27th is the accurate position. Cheers

Result revised ;)

The beef of the motorist who complained had nothing to do with finishing on the bridge ,I will elaborate down the club room this evening

To clarify, I'm not suggesting that new PTW CLUB members are precluded from riding our club events. Just only allowing the current handful of second-claim members and not accepting what has effectively become entry on the line something that is, of course, not allowed in Open events which is what our Thursday nights have turned into.

What I mean by a newcomer is someone who has never done a time trial before, and isn't a member of any club. For example, they could be a mountain biker. I thought CTT themselves were encouraging this kind of open-door policy.

I did my first time trial on my college bike (inch and a quarter tyres and a rack for paniers), wearing a pair of shorts and some stout shoes (I'm not joking). Perhaps those days have gone (wistful sigh).

There is not enough daylight for that amount of riders. On safety grounds alone we need to restrict the numbers.

We could request that people intending to ride, contact us beforehand so we have an idea of the numbers and can turn people away if necessary without them having to make the journey there. Priority given to members and second claims of course.

How well that would work in practice is another matter.

Perhaps it might be better to accept entries from riders whose clubs actually promote open events, and to have a definite cut off time for entries ,and to accept no more entries regardless who they are' even club members, giving the timekeeper ample time to set the field.Alf on the night had a lot on his plate ,which was,nt helped by complaints by the public
