I've only just caught up with the sad news that David Duffield has passed away from injuries sustained after a fall.

Yes, he got it wrong sometimes and concentrated on Flemish roof tile patterns while the crucial break was going up the road but he was great fun as well.

I had no idea he was 84. It doesn't say whether he fell of his bike. In my imagination, he did.

I've just watched the clip of Sean Kelly winning the Milan San Remo in 1992. Watching that crash and knowing that a) they're not wearing helmets and b) they're going be hauled off the road (regardless of neck injuries etc) because the rest of the field is coming is such a blast.
