Your man in the field reporting again...

After a week of enforced rest for both James and I we decided to kick start the racing campaign with the George Greaves memorial, a Jif run Road Race. My final decision to ride was made on Saturday night about 8pm. And again at 8.00am Sunday. Then 8.10am. Then the Final Final decision was made at 8.15pm. Yes, with the rain hammering down and my week of doing f**k all other than stuff my face with chocolate I was not a happy camper rocking up for 3 laps of the BEtty Pharoah course around Ogmore and Llantwit.

Nevertheless James and I set off and I soon found myself going through St Brides Major attacking off the front with Cwmcarn's Anthony O'Boyle. We soon had a fair gap, but I was starting to hurt. When George Rose (Abergavenny) and Ben Simmons bridged and attacked I decided I didn't need this sort of hurt when I'm not feeling 100%, so I dropped back (rather involuntarily!) to the bunch. This of course, would turn out to be the wining move. D'oh!!

By the time I was back in the bunch I realsied the move had potential and spent the next lap tryign to chase it back for James. Despite my best efforts (we could almost touch them on several occasions) there were too many good teams int he break and the bunch weren't able to organise a chase. The gap soon ballooned to a minute.

On the 2nd lap going through Wick however, a few hardy souls began tanking it, and the gap started to come down. Coming through Corntown again we coudl see them, tantilisingly close. On the rise up through St Brides major I again found myself going off the front in a promising move that quickly opened up a gap. We drove it all the way to Llantwit, but a fast moving bunch caught us with 1.5kms to go, and by now I was cooked. I let the bunch go past. James finished int he bunch and I rolled in shortly afterwards, done for the day.

Not the best results for PTWCC but I needed a hard workout to wake me up again. Another day and I'm confident I could have stayed in that break but after a week of illness and sloth it was not going to happen today.

Great report Dave sounds like a good day was had by all.

Now all this Illness and Sloth, Can't you at least say something like "I took too much out of myself on the 10:30 bash on Saturday morning as I attacked Lewis Hobbs up Park Slip, all along Penybryn, along the A48, my legs were screaming as I edged the Margam prime so I didn't have enough legs left for the break" That would at least make the guys you romped away from feel a bit better......

Makes me want to take part in road racing again.............
