Hello, this is my first post on the website. Last summer I started riding with a racer for basically the first time, although for some years now I have ridden regular with the mountain bike. I live in Berlin, but get home quite often and would like to either participate in a regular meet or have some suggestions of where to ride. Cheers

Hi Brynmor, there's a full list of PTWCC rides on the about page on this site, there's always a fair mixture of abilities and fitness levels on all the rides, so just turn up at your choosen time and join in, although you are able to ride with the PTWCC without becoming a member as a "friend without predjudice", you must have a third party insurance, i.e. B.C., C.TC., ETC. See you soon.

Titus, I know what BC and CTC stand for, but what about ETC. Is it the extra terrestial club or the elite tossers club! Sorry Brynmor, we are a friendly club really.

Cheers for the reply guys; trouble is it sounds quite easy, but can you direct me to the 'about page' as I have hit every button and am unable to find it. This isnt like when the new guy is asked the first day on the job to nip down to supplies and pick up a tin of striped paint is it?

Cheers, that makes everything clear. One thing I am not sure about though is to do with the third party insurance> I live in Germany and so have own private health insurance, though i am not sure if this is what is meant by third party insurance, as this sounds like something you must at least have when driving a car. I try to get home every couple of months, and would like to participate in rides during these times.

If you visit the "about page " again, open either britsih cycling, cyclists touring club or british triathlon association, all the insurances are explained. Rule no7 states that all active cycling members must belong to one of these organisations. My guess is, it must be rule no23 that states "that all non-members who ride with the club as "friends without predjudice" must hold a membership and therefore insurance with one of the afore mentioned organisations before they ride with the club".

While what Titus has posted above is correct, I would be surprised if this would be enforced on your first outings. please don't be afraid to turn up at any of the rides and get to know the club and its members.

Steady there, that's how this whole "freinds without predjudice" thingy got started!.Brynmor,I would be one of the last people to try and put you off riding with the club and I wouldn't be so bold as to put a number to the rides you could attend without insurance but, the insurance is for your own safety and peace of mind.Correct me if I'm wrong(and I'm sure one of you will)!but, I'm sure the B.C. insurance covers you for leisure cycling in Europe.

And welcome to the forum mate :D Has for the insurance I would go for the CTC as you can use this even when riding on your own. I think it covers for you riding in Europe ( but double check this with CTC ;) ).

you make a valid point here Anthony. HAs when I first enquired about going out with the club 8 years ago, I was told dont worry about insurance straight away. I was told 3 rides and then sort this out. I mean I joined the club and took out insurance after the first ride 8). But I think its just more important just to get interested parties along in the first instance. An interested potential member could be informed of insurance in more detail at a cafe stop. THats what happened with me anyway. Perapes things have changed ;)
