I was looking at the following Seatpost

which is only 12 quid, but I can't work out where to buy the things. Is it possible that Monoc have gone out of business? I tried both the phone numbers on the website, and one 'doesn't receive incoming calls', the other 'has not been recognised'.

If they're out of business, why is the website still there?

Do you need the oversize version or good old 27.2mm for your Monoc?

I've stuck with ITM for bars, stems and seatposts and the 'Lite Luxe' versions are largely undiscovered gems - being very close to the low weight of the 'Millennium' stuff but at a fraction of the price.

Good old 27.2. There's a carbon Monoc seatpost for sale on eBay for 25 quid, but since the previous one has proven so, um, delicate, I'm thinking that an alloy post might be just the ticket for me. Of course, if I really notice an increase in road vibration then I'll quickly think otherwise, but cheap mistakes are much better to make than expensive ones. It really seems that the 12 quid monoc alloy seatpost can't be bought anywhere.

Dangerous thing eBay... I went on there to get a nice simple alloy seat post, and what did I end up buying? A seat-post with a bend in it!

Hopefully I'm not mad. The new plan is to make the Monoc a bit more like a TT bike by moving the saddle even further forward, allowing me to get more power in. It will also make it a bit quicker and easier to reconfigure the bike each week for the Time Trial, since all I will do is swap the post and saddle, rather than having to adjust everything, and I strongly suspect that's how I broke the seatpost in the first place. Some people buy an entire bike just for Time Trialling, so I've heard, but I think an extra seatpost is slightly more economical.

I've got a new saddle as well coming, with a hole in it, but I haven't decided whether it's going to be for general use or for trialling. I'll find out when I use it in anger
