The novice bar is a club competion for all riders who have not won any other award during their time in cycling. The participants have to record times in open events over 10, 25 and 50 miles. The winner is the rider with the highest average speed over the 3 distances. This is a coveted award and earns the due respect it deserves within the club.
Eligible riders who spring to mind are;
Kevin Rattenbury - Bookies Favourite
Bill Gannon- Housewives Favourite
Ian Davies- Someones Favourite
Tim OLeary- Dark Horse- Could surprise many and win it
George- Was looking very sharp on Saturday and owns 2 turbo trainers
Message is- You have to be in it to win it. Lets have a good competion this year and let me know if your having a bash _______________ Pain is only temporary - Quitting is for ever ........ Lance Amstrong

Do you have to specify which open event you are going to do?
Or can you enter a few and work out the best speed ?
I could be interested in this after IronMan Lanza in May.
Hirwaun 50m June 10th
Cardiff 100 10m June 16th
Merthyr 25m June 17th

Very funny Martin.
This is the only trophy worth winning and the only trophy that actually looks smart on the mantlepiece. Trust me, it looks like a silver Jules Rimet! Having scanned my diary, I have come up with these possibilities.
Sun 22nd April R25/3H Acme Wheelers
Sat 5th May R10/22 PTW
Sun 10th June R50/3C Hirwaun Wheelers
Next challenge. Working out how to actually enter an event. _______________ Electric bikes are great. They give ordinary people the chance to know what it feels like to be me.

Why not ride a '25' between the '10' and the '50' so that you have a progressive build up?

As your man has said, you have to be in it to win it.Any way you pair are typical of the p.t.w frame of mind,no matter what people do,it's never good enough or the right thing and I think you'll find it reads P.T.W.CYCLING Club not P.T.W.RACING Club and maybe you should have read rule 1 on the reverse of the membership forms.
p.s. thanks for forking another season up for me!

Well stupid me
Got talking to a rider from merthyr at yesterdays 50m TT
explaining to him that I was doing the race for a time for
the clubs novice bar and that I only had the 100 mTT to do next week
and I would have done them all. 10, 25, 50 and 100. He queried whether I
had to do the 100 and I said yes I'm sure it was posted on our club web site.
So dug out the old thread (this one) and lo and behold I don't need to do the 100
Unfortunately have already entered and am off first at 07:30.
Never mind, at least I'll have a time to beat next year _______________ "We can't all be heroes because somebody has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by"

10-mile
25-mile
50-mile
100-mile
12-hour
24-hour
Back on topic, whose got the upper hand in the Novice BAR? _______________ "The most important thing in life is not to have the most, but to need the least.” Plato (my favourite Disney character).

And will be here for another 4 weeks.
Missed out on the 10 and 25 TT at the weekend, so looks like I may have missed my chance this year.

24:22 = 1462 seconds
1 hour = 3600 seconds
so, in one hour you would have done 3600 / 1462 * 10 miles = 24.62 miles/hour, if you had gone that far.
You will notice how the calculation simplifies for the hour record :-)
Anyway, I thought the BAR *was* based on averaging the averages? I don't even know the rules for these things. _______________ Electric bikes are great. They give ordinary people the chance to know what it feels like to be me.

10 divided by 24.22 = 0.412 x 60 = 24.72 mph thats the 10 done so u can do the rest, to not average averages u need to add all the miles up and add all the times up and work out the sum the same way .... all the same it's faster and further than i'll ever go !!! _______________ the cyclist formely known as noddy !

24.22 minutes = 24 minutes 13.2 seconds! That's why you get 24.72 mph and I get 24.62 mph :-)
I understand your average. You've calculated the average speed, were the TTs to be done one after the other. But that gives too much emphasis to the 50 miler. The significance of taking 1 second off your 10 mile TT time is five times more significant than 1 second off your 50 mile TT time.
Were you ever to do one... The first 49 miles are the worst. _______________ Electric bikes are great. They give ordinary people the chance to know what it feels like to be me.

Mmmmm, seem to have started something here.
Any way my averages are as follows
10 mile = 24.05
25 mile = 22.36
50 mile = 21.89
100 mile = 20.78
Still don't understand where Bill got 23.01 mph _______________ "We can't all be heroes because somebody has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by"
