Just before the start, I bumped in to fellow PTWCC Jeremy (Jones) who was 2nd last week!
We talked about tactics, how the race would start off slowly etc and I thought ok, we got a chance to do something here!
So from the gun Jeremy shoots off up the track taking another rider with him! Bang goes the plan to start off slowly I thought, and as I've spent most of the year dressed in my Lederhosen and drinking german beer and eating Bavarian steak, I was suffering from the off!
5 laps later Jeremy's back in the bunch and 5 laps later again, he's on the side suffering from severe side cramps - so his race was over!
So feeling a bit better I sarted to mix things up with a few Ajax guys (one of whom had a Llandow win under his belt) and suddenly the bunch was split and the were a few of us away. This continued for a couple of laps, then it was altogether again. The attacks continued over the next half hour and little by little the bunch started to dwindle until there were only 8 of us left to fight out the sprint. Coming in to the last corner I was badly placed, 1st place was in the bag for the Ajax rider and we were sprinting for second. 4 of us in a line and I was assured of second then bang! the rider next to me touched wheels with the guy next to him and he came down. I performed some quite nice manoevers that the BMX community would be proud of and managed to stay upright, but unfortunately got passed by 2 guys on the inside and rolled in 4th! All in all a really enjoyable night! Just a pity its September! But I guess it bodes well for next year!
