I feel that I should inform the cycling world that sadly, my father, Brian Edwards lost his long fight against cancer (Mesothelioma) and passed away at 3pm on 9 August 2011.

Many will remember my Dad got drawn in to cycling sport as a consequence of supporting me when I was racing as a junior. He went on to become heavily involved in officiating at cycle races and organising events and he was the secretary of the WCU for a number of years.

Following the death of my mother, Brian moved to Lincoln to live with Olwen, his daughter to see out his final years. He will be cremated in Lincoln following a small family service. However since the majority of Dads friends live in Wales or the West Country my family will be arranging memorial funeral service in Margam Crematorium at a date yet to be determined.

I will post the time and date when this is known, please pass the news on to members of other Cycling Clubs who may have known Brian.

Sorry to hear of your sad loss Dave,may i pass on my condolances to you and the family,on behalf of myself and the club, i have fond memories of Brian, over the years ,and much appreciated the work he put into organising and officiating at the many events that used to be held in the area. .

Dave I can only echo Pip, words and am truly sorry to hear of your sad loss. May I too offer my condolances.

As Pip states, Brian put a lot of time and effort into Welsh Cycling, Not only in officiating at events, but running us about and getting us to various events all over the UK.

One of my fondest memories of Brian was driving up the M5 to Liverpool heading off to the Isle of Man as a first year Junior ...............................The first time I had been in a car being driven at over 100MPH... Great Stuff......

The memorial funeral service for Brian Edwards will take place in Margam Crematorium on Monday 22 August at 3:00pm

Following the service at Margam Crematorium there will be a get together to celebrate Brians Life held at the Twelve Knights Hotel, Margam Road, Port Talbot SA13 2DB
