A bright and sunny Sunday morning met the squadra chrono for another early start at Llandovery. First out of the blocks was supposed to be Andy Evans, number 5......
Shouting at his travelling companion Scott Davies of cardiff ajax at the race HQ car park (off Number 8 ) "Come on mate, we'll be late" they headed off to the start..................of the 50............ Error number 1........
Realising something was wrong when they found there were no timekeepers at their percieved start line, they headed back to the race HQ and noticed people heading off down the back road to Llangadog. 3 miles later as cleverly described on the start sheet, they found the missing timekeepers and reported for duty, 6 minutes late for Andy and 3 minutes late for Scott. They now had to wait until some gaps appeared which was to be around half an hour later which meant that first out of the blocks was John Littlewood at 9. He returned in 1:07:53.
As there was no rain, snow, hail or any hint of a Baaad Chest at Llangynwyd this morning, Stuart Evans was up bright and early and tore around the course in a 1:02:45 and with a vets plus of 16:45 walked off with the vets prize.
12 minutes later, I set off and recorded a 1:4:46 which I was quite pleased about as it almost matched my personal best for that course on what was a tough day.
Unfortunately we wiill have to wait a little for John Pritchard's long awaited return to the TT field as his alarm failed to go off and Pritch recorded a DNS.
So what happened to our intrepid explorers Andy and Scott I hear you ask......... Well word is that they eventually set off one minute apart. Off went Andy and at Llanwrda, we was catching his minute man....... and Scott was catching him........... All good so far.........
However, the rider that Andy was catching caught site of a CTT direction arrow tucked away in a hedge.... (Apparently this was a momento from last week and was in fact a direction arrow to the start of last weeks 30). Left went the unnamed rider........ Left went Andy....... Left went Scott........ Then sharp right............and BRAKE!!!!!!! straight into a farm yard to molest some sheep........ Error number 2
After a great deal of gnashing of teeth they returned to the main highway and Andy recorded a 1:12:30 (including 6 mins late start) whilst Scott recorded a
1:5:12 including a 3 min late start.....
So there you go THE FIRST TIME TRIAL I HAVE BEATEN MR ANDY EVANS....... I MUST BE FLYING
More tales of woe next week
