I only knew Vernon for the last couple of years
but he was a true gent and made me feel very welcome
when I joined the club. He was always ready to offer me advice
from his wealth of cycling experience and he will be sorely missed
by all.

My deepest sympathy to his family.

Vernon always made me feel very welcome on our numerous rides to Porthcawl, even if it was to look up at my rather upright posture and ask "What's it like up there?". After the parting of the various ways in Port Talbot on the way back, it used to be just the two of us riding the Baglan Road together. He was as fit as a fiddle, I can tell you. I also remember the day he said his wheels were built using rims he bought back in 1965! Only Vernon could come out with that.

He built every wheel I currently ride on, and I'm proud of that.

What a great guy, one of the best, was a true fighter right to the end, will be sadly missed by myself and my dad, still remeber vernon pushing me on my first ever club run way back 1994, and the home made aero helmets we all used in the late 90's to knock 1 second of our PB's, and them super longturbo sesions he told us about !! R.I.P Vernon will always rember you.

Now you mention it, I joined the club in late 1994 and not long afterwards I can remember going into Vernon's shed (or garage) and the front of the top tube on his turbo frame was almost completely rusted through from his sweat! Hard ol' bugger!

I can honestly say I never heard Vernon say a bad word about anyone. He was such a genltman. I asked him to build Rhys a pair of wheels for the junior Paris Roubaiux they are so good I cant tell you. I am embarased by how little he charged me. Another sign of the humble gentleman Vernon Davies.
Sympatheys to all the family.

Yes!, Sad news, I'll never forget my first club ride, climbing out of Clydach to Graig Cefn Park, I'd blown to say the least, just before the cattle grid I had to stop and as I put me foot down a voice ( who I later found out belonged to Vernon) Said, '' there's no shame in being Knackered'', kind and inspirational words, from a kind and inspirational man. I visted Vernon in Ty Olwen and as I said to him on leaving,'' Vernon, it's been a pleasure knowing you. Our deepest sympathies are extended to all the Davies family.
