On route from Porthcawl to the Plaza I donned Snorkel and flippers to get through the floods in water street where the flood under the bridge was over the bottom bracket. This left my feet and lower limbs cold and wet but hey ho it was a tailwind so all was not lost.
When I got to the Plaza, as expected, there was no one there until Spot turned up resplendant in yellow waterproof Jacket. We waited till around 5 past 9 in the vain hope that some other hardy souls would turn up but as it was teaming down we were not surprised at the no shows.
We headed east into the head wind and with rain and wind in our faces we got to Pyle where we decided to head to the lanes to get some shelter. The road to Penyfai was littered with debris from the nights downpour but we made good time before climbing Alp duez and heading over the common to Coity and Llanharan.
After turning right to Llanharry we then headed to Llangan and Pentre Meyrick before climbing up to Llandow and heading throught the lanes to Corntown. Once again we had to wade through a lot of water and by now the wind had turned and we still had a headwind but the rain had stopped and by the time we got to the cafe at Ewenny there were even hints of a Blue sky.
Surprise surprise, we didn't see many other cyclists out today and noone turned up at the cafe. so after two warming cups of tea and some toast we donned our wet weather gear once again and headed home through broadlands and Kenfig hill before returning along the A48.
I turned off at the aptly named Water street and once again got my feet wet at the bridge and the little river just after Newlands.
But it was all worth it as when I got home after ridng 59 miles a much appreciated Sunday roast hit the plate at 1:30 and I sat down to lunch with Karen and my Neice.
Sweet,
Thanks to Spot for proving that I am not the only nutter who wants to ride a bike in the rain.......
