Ok I know, most 'proper' roadies are not into sportifs, but hey, Got to have a go now and then. I dragged myself road in 6 1/2 hours yesterday, which I was pretty happy with.I know there are pleanty in the club who'd easily beat that, but I set myself a oal at the beggining of the year and I achieved it. HAppy days.

Next stop a 52 in spetember at the PTW open 25. LOL

Gambo that's a great time! Don't know about pproper roadies not doing these events, I know plenty who were there on the weekend. Hell I wanted to do it too but illness ruled me out.

Great time on a tough course! Well done!

(PS if you shaved your legs you might go a bit quicker ;) )

Are you the only club member that rode in it? Hmm, I can't believe that. Let's get some times up.

And for the record the fastest time last year was by Chris Allen with a 7:10. Mind you it was brutally hot - hottest day of the year if I recall.

Electric bikes are great. They give ordinary people the chance to know what it feels like to be me.

LOL!! I have'nt mentally got there yet. Can't even get my arse into gear to shave my face, what chance do my legs have..

Thanks for the replies, appreciate them. Fatest rider was 5h 40mins. Need to cut off a leg and/or arm to go that fast.

Well done gambo, thats an excellent time!

I too did the gran fondo, however not representing the club this year as i did last year.
The reason being, i also ride for a crack elite team of riders known in cyclings murky underworld as "TEAM WHEEZE"
We completed the course in a record 9 odd hours!!!!
Actual riding time 8hrs 20 (with feed station/machanicals taken out)

We were made up of 9 riders, 6 of whom have now owned their first road bikes for all of 6 months!
To be fair to the boys the have all been putting the miles in throughout the cold winter months and to some 15 -20miles was a "BIG" ride back in january.
A few of the boys mountain bike but purely as a social hobby mainly at afan so this was a "big deal" and the 1st event they had entered.

To give you a little backround on TEAM WHEEZE, it was originally started back in the late 80s by a few beer guzzling lard arses as a way to get fit (our very own mr sparks being a founder member!), i joined them when i started work on the railway as another founding member merv kenyon was bike mad and we worked together until 6 years ago.
The "TEAM" evolved into an annual charity bike ride raising thousands of pounds for local charities. However the rides always finished in a pub somewhere!
It slowly died a death in the late 90s so i decided to resurrect it for this years dragon and continue the charity theme.
You probably remember my earlier post about the "LUCYS DREAM APPEAL" to which club members kindly donated £100.
Well we managed to raise over £1700 for the appeal.

All of the boys completed the course, all are enjoying being "roadies", they are already planning on going for "times" at next years Dragon and also entering more sportives.
A few have also shown an interest in joining the club and having a go at testing
so who knows where it will lead?

At the end of the day a bunch of mates had a great day cycling, so does it matter if your thing is racing, tts, mtbs, touring or whatever, its people having a good time on bikes and for me thats what its all about!
