Looking at the forcast for today, it was supposed to be a wash out, But luckily the rain held off.
98 riders were on the startlist, But at the start, there appeared to only being a maximum off 60, ( maybe the forecast put some of them off).
Compared to the last junior road race i did, I found myself half way up the field in the opening miles, so it looked like a big improvement was on the cards for me.
Disappointingly I was caught up in a crash going downhill in the opening ten miles. my helmet took the brunt of the force, But a bit of good judgement saw me on a grass verge with a lot of gravel on it, which left me with a lot of grass stains and a bruised foot and pulled groin, ( which affected me a lot, out of the saddle ).
I got up immediately and saw that the bunch had at least 300m on me. the other guys in the crash weren't getting up. so it meant a hard chase by myself.
I did get back on, just before they decided that they were going to start attacking.
On such a demanding course, i knew any chance i had of hanging on was gone.
i still managed to get up all the climbs though for the next 20 or so miles, ( in the saddle) before getting shot out, on a day where it just wasnt to be.

I didn't fancy the 40 mile ride on my own as i was already in a bit of pain, so i hopped in the broom wagon, and had a nice lift back to HQ.

All in all, i'm happy with my performance, because i know they was so much improvement on the last one that i done.
And was quite relieved I didnt sustain more injuries by crashing at 30mph.

Curtis. :P

Well done Curtis good write up and well done for getting stuck in!

Just been reading about it on the BC website and I think I can spot you in the grass to the right of this picture! How the hell people ended up over there is beyond me!
