Hi Guys
Sorry for not putting this up earlier but I wanted to get the facts right before we put up any statements.

Yesterday Pip Lewis was invloved in a freak accident where, whilst riding along the dual carraigeway Tondu Road out of Bridgend, it appears that he touched a wheel and fell off into the right hand lane and in the act of falling, was hit by a passing car.

His injuries are :
Broken Clavicle
Hair line fracture to the neck
Cracks to both eye sockets and cheekbones
Cuts to the back of the Head
A blood clot on the Left hand side of the brain
Multiple areas of swelling on the brain

Having spoken to James this evening Pip is doing well, is conscious, is talking to people and the hourly monitoring is positive. He remains in the high dependancy unit Ward B4 (North) Neurology at the Heath Hospital Cardiff but the Doctors are hopeful that if his recovery continues as it has over the last 24 hours, he will be switched to a medium dependancy unit in 3 to 4 days time.

This is obviously going to be a long term recuperation and I'm sure we all wish him a speedy recovery.

Once I have established visiting times I will Post

he also has 2 bleeds to the brain and a fracture between the eyebrosws. however please can i ask not to mention about the facial fractures as he does not kno about them yet as he has enough on his plate at the moment.
visiting is between 4-7 but he is only allowed 2 in the room at a time so can i ask to try and spread out the visiting or wait in the waiting room while there are 2 in the room or work out some kind of rota. he is pretty banged up but he is on the mend but it is early days.

Broken clavicle, aye!. I didn't know Pip played a musical instrument, let alone carry one around in his jersey pocket. I can imagine how he must feel, I dented my harmonica once, I was right danted ;) . Anyway, genuinely sorry to hear the bad news, as was said earlier, just goes to show how easy these things can happen and how vulnerable we are, when out enjoying the sport we love. Get well soon,Pip. From all at the Rattenbury Household.

My stomach sunk when I heard about your accident Pip - nobody likes to hear of a fellow cyclist being involved in an accident. You're a tough stubborn bugger, and I'm sure if anybody can recover from this you can. Anyway, I bought the last coffee on 'The old mans ride' last Friday so it's your round next!
Get well soon mate.

Hi Guys
I have just had a chat with Chris and James and whilst the support and well wishes are obviously very much appreciated, apparently Pip gets tired quite quickly at the moment and can get a little confused.

As a result they have asked that visiting is restricted to family members only during the early days of recuperation in order that he can conserve his energies for the process of getting better.

Once he is strong enough Chris will let me know and I will post visiting times etc.

Thanks for your continued support and cooperation on this.
